Festae dithers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As long as they're eating and have clean water they will grow. 1/2 fish are super shy. They'll grow out of it.

I am totally against using dithers with psychos like that because they end up being torn up or dead.

Thats pretty much the point of dithers. They take the aggression so that your other cichlids don't. I'm against using dithers with fish this size b/c they will out-compete your growouts for food. I don't even think about dithers until my fish get a few inches on them.

If you don't want your fish you kick the crap out each other, don't buy cichlids. Buying tetras so they take the abuse and not your "good" fish is sad. Not a fan at all of "target fish" and if you think it's ok to torture poor little tetras then you should get out of the hobby.

^ bah humbug, plenty of us use target fish because we dont want our actual favorites to get destroyed. Bloody face (red hi fin wolf) has a head count of 5, 2 were accidental (slipped a divivder), 3 were totally big enough to be w/ him but he tore their heads off anyway. All were meant to be targets, thanks to that my other fish survived him.

Tetras will work, if you want something that can somehwat take care of itself small severum work great IME and can defend themselves, at least my green and gold can hold their own against my festae and stalsbergi. Also ive found small bichirs help get cichlids to stay out of the hides.

GL w/ your festae! Hope you get a pair out of it, i love my pair. Theyre so much more interactive and entertaining then say jewel cichlids or haps. SAs seems to be more intelligent then africans

And it's a damn shame. Again, you don't want your "favorite" to get hurt keep it alone. You don't want the others to get hurt don put them with killers.

I think dithers are the least of your worries in the the next 2 months in a 10g. Once the festae get to ~1.5", they will start beating on each other and ignoring the tetras.

I have 7 festae ranging in size from 1.5 - 2" or so in a 40 breeder. 7 days ago I put in 6 lake inle danios, all of which were at least 2" in length and these things are faster than giant danios... Today I fished out the last dead danio... The festae are fine quite happy.. $40 I shoulda spent on beer... lettem work it out themselves, and get a bigger tank.
