Any tips? right now i have them in my main tank, the 150g in a breeder box. the 75g i got for them seems really huge for them since they are only about .5" and there is 11 of them (got one extra ;) )The 75g has a cartridge filter from a cycled tank in one of the HOB filters...and a fake tree from a cycled tank in it as well. im afraid to put them in the 75, until it is fully cycled otherwise i fear risk of losing them, do you guys agree? keep them in the floating breeder box until i think the 75 has cycled? i put just a tiny bit of flakes in the breeder box about 20 min after i put them in, and they didnt seem interested... any tips on raising fry would be MOST helpful!

I would move the whole filter unit instead of just the cartridge, from the established tank to the new one. Then put them in the 75 and You should be fine

I agree with fishluvr. If your 75 has nothing in it to create ammonia and nitrites, the Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter bacteria in the filter cartridge will die off anyway. Put the entire established filter on the 75g and the fry.

Congrats on getting your new Festae btw.

I just recently cleaned the main filter on my big tank, though. I even changed some of the filter media. It is a Rena xp3. So putting a dirty hob filter in with the clean ones isn't a good idea? Seems like doing the same thing. How long does this method take to cycle the tank?

Are there any fish in the tank?

It doesn't cycle a tank. You avoid the whole cycle. It goes from a fresh tank to established instantaneously. So the tank is ready for usage immediately. Like said above, waiting to add fish will cause the beneficial bacteria you added on the media to promptly die off, leaving you in a worse position than originally.

I haven't cycled a tank in over a decade simply by adding established media.

I'm of the mindset that just adding some media; not the full filter works just as well (though the full xp3 wouldn't hurt).

Was the media cleaned before going into the new tank? I hope not.
