I am after some advice regarding festae cichlid fry. I have a young pair around 5 inches that have laid eggs for the first time and they seem to be fertile. I was going to remove half of the fry when they become free swimmers but how long should I wait before I remove them? should I wait until they are strong swimmers or remove them asap.

Any advice welcome.

Tbh I would let the parents raise them, but if you decide to remove them wait until they are free swimming. If you never raised fry before wait until the fry are atleast 1inch, and are eating fry foods.:)

Thanks for the advice. I will most probably remove a handful when they reach about an inch long. I will upload some photos when they hatch.

It's fine to pull half as this is obviously your first batch of Festae and it's understandable that your nervous. I usually leave mine till they're 6 weeks the. Pull to seperate tank. They will grow faster and healthier with the parents as your most certainly see when you pull half.

There really nice looking fish buddy, wish I could find festae like that, doesn't seem to be many good ones in England at the moment, last time I bought a batch they all turned out to be Mayan cichlids after I grew them on a bit.
