Festae gender question

Black on the fin is a positive ID to tell you it's female

I'm sorry but this isn't a positive ID. Males can have dorsals that appear to have black also which is what makes it confusing. So the whole black dorsal theory is a slight misconception and not the only characteristics to go by. Yes females have dark dorsals, but just because it's dark doesn't mean it's female lol. Being able to eyeball Festae and know wether it's male or female can be easy at times but usually takes experience to learn exactly what to look for.

If a festae is mature, the cranial profile is a very helpful when color is not distinctive enough.
Females can show mature characteristics as small as 4", males may need to be larger.
Note the difference between the male and females, when this pair is together.
