Our new pair of festae are looking like they are going to spawn we have them in our 230 that is well stocked will they be fine. So far they don't bother the other fish but I know they are agressive fish hoping we will have enough dither fish so no one will get hurt. My wife is thinking of pulling the eggs and hatching them in another tank or should we give them a chance on their own. It would be really nice to raise some because not many people around here have them. The reason we believe they are going to spawn is becauase our female is turning real red and the male has gone to a silver color with red lips and fins they are also checking out several nooks and crannies. Anybody any thoughts.

Festae are very good parents. I wouldn't be so quick to remove the eggs. Let the parents take care of them until you see reasons to remove the eggs. When you finally get Festae to bond and spawn, you don't want to do anything that would interrupt the pair. Good luck with them.

Define "well-stocked".

In a 125, I have a young breeding pair... indeed, they are digging as I type this... and they have never tolerated ANYTHING (but one beleaguered pleco) in their tank when breeding. They harass the pleco constantly, moreso when they are ready to spawn.

Your tank is bigger, but my guess is that you'll wake up to shredded, dead fish if you leave anything in with them. It is just a guess... but it comes from experience with Festae.

How big are the festae?

I personally would either put them in a tank by themselves or have a divider ready to be able to block them off from everyone else (and then a smaller one for the female to get away from the male into). My festae (m 10" ~ f 6") killed 13 of their tank mates once they eggs hatched in my 265.

Our s are about 6 to 7 inches now the tank has a pair of oscars,6 jd biggest about 6in,4 severums,2 firemouths,5 bar cichlid 2 dayglos,a bunch of convidts all sizes,1 rhino pleco and 1 catfish unknown but not big. I hope if anything they will get the tank mice convicts.

I want to get some pics of all of our fish and setups posted but seem to be really good at procrastinating. Was just down looking at them and she is even more colorful I don't think they have a spot for sure picked out but I believe they are getting it narrowed down. Alittle worried about the other fish how far will they chase and attack them.

Are there any tricks to getting them in the mood like a water change and adding cold water.

Once mine paired off, I removed the other fish from the tank and they spawned a month or so later... and regularly ever since. Most regularly spawning fish I have ever seen... well, other than Convicts.
