about 3"
When I got it last month, I thought male. Then a week or 2 later, I thought female. Now Im not sure. Im thinking male right now but not so sure at all. For those that raise these from smaller size and up, what do you say?
Pretty hard to get pictures of it. In the video you see why. But she's getting better. Coming out now so I got a few pictures.

Male or female?

that's still a little young to try and sex. If I were to guess it'd be male, but that's just what it is, a guess

yeah total guess would be male (looks femalish in the vid but the last pic shows speckling) but like stated above it is still too small to tell, ask again when he/she is like 5in these guys take for ever to be able to tell sex for sure they like to keep their he/she colors for awhile, healthy looking fish though can def tell your taking good care of it :)

As stated above, looks male but still too small to say for sure.

well, if it looks male, then I think it is a male. Now Im feeling pretty sure that it is a male with some inputs because I thought it was a male when I got it. I had a female also but got rid of her because they are sibblings.

Very nice festae. Now I know everyone is saying male, but I don't see it. It looks like every female I ever raised. Notice the balck/blue spot on dorsal.plus the face looks totally female. I know males have a tendacy of showing female traits and even get a dark dorsal. But never seen a male with a permanent spot on dorsal. The only ones I've seen and raised with that spot was female. That's not saying thAt females only have the spot. So I'm putting money on female.

thanks for that. Now Im leaning back to female and in the middle which is unsure of anything now. hahaaha

Almost looks like 2 different fish - If you just posted pic #4 I'd say male but 1-3 show alot of barring for a 3" male. The barring is more indicative of females at that size. Also I don't think I've ever seen such a pronounced black spot on a festaes gill plate before. Could either way - time will tell.

FEMALE i'd say ... the front half of dorsal fin shows some blackish / bluish colour and will strengthen more

My female had some speckles but most dissapear as she grows bigger

The head shape looks very pointy too, compared to males' that would be more 'blocky' (this is how i differentiate M from F on some fish too :) )
