Festae M or F?

Please don't choose a fish based on the bars. Those can disappear overnight, all depending on the fish's mood, surroundings, etc.

That's a real bummer I hope I didn't just waste allot of money. I love the pics of females with the bright orange and yellow and black bars. Never seen an adult in real life they don't have them around here so I had to order from Jeff Rapps.

Well if you ordered from Rapps then you have quality Festae:) I grew out the parents of the fry snd sold them to my friend Sandy who spawned them multiple times. Top notch Festae!! I also sent him a batch of my fry from my new pair but they were only 1/2" so it will be a couple months before they are offered Im sure. And bars on females don't really disappear, sometimes they turn a shade of metallic blue but the line you have will get bars. I have seen females with no bars at all but you don't have to worry about that in your group;)

Oh good thanks for the reassurance. As you can tell I am completely new to festea other than drooling over pics the past few years.

A single festae will likely be fairly bland in colour. They only colour up when paired in my experience. I currently have a single female in a community and she is very blah compared to the pair I kept a few months ago. (and she is from the same batch of young)

Ill disagree my female festae is by herself in my cichla tank . She is always in bright coloration. Amazing coloration . All my females from my last pair retained their vivid pigment all year round
