festae males?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know this thread is a little old but after almost a month of everyone, including me, thinking I had all male festae....here SHE is flashing for a wild male. This is the fish in the first pic in the first post of this thread.

Festaes are not that easy to sex if they can fool a bunch of mfkers. That black front dorsal fin comes and goes, grows and shrinks from a spot, and those blue specs dont mean a thing. Its best to wait to be sure. Who knows how many of the 4 festaes I sold as males were actually females.

I'm not sure about the sex, but you've got some really nice looking Festaes....Keep up the great work.

I agree. She turned out to be quite the looker! Do you have pics of that WC female?

Festae have a lot of variety in coloration. I know of quite a few people who have been fooled by Festae's sex below 5-6" going by the dorsal fin. She turned out very nice, congrats.

thanks guys. Yea, I actually bought a wild pair $60 both fish 5". Owner just didnt have space when his jags started breeding. Wild pair is definitely more drab, thinner, bigger eyes and mouth than my F?. Have you guys experienced this difference with Fo fish?
