İ know but ı have only have room for 4 fish and they must be festae or uaru amp.

mayan... they have one thing over the festae, its been said they can live in full marine when mature! i keep thinking about doing it! good luck! send em to good homes;)

I have one of those. Currently my most aggressive fish (which is odd.....I have much larger fish that are supposed to be much more agro). It's a cold blooded psychopath.

They have been found breeding close to saltwater reefs in full marine conditions. But they're not the only cichlid that can survive in saltwater... There's saltwater flowerhorns that live in reef tanks (youtube it) which leads me to believe that when acclimated properly (might take several months of acclimation, starting at very young age) many other cichlids can be converted to saltwater. This is believed to be stressful and not healthy for the fish at all, most of them die and those that survive supposedly have a severely shortened lifespan.

Why would anyone want to do this is beyond me though... it's like trying to house parrots and bats in the same cage just because both can fly. I guess people have way too much time on their hands.

I also think I read something about asian Flowerhorn breeders using saltwater for best coloration or something like that. I don't remember the details though but I've read a lot of weird crazy stuff going on in koi/flowerhorn-obsessed-asian minds, I wouldn't be surprised if they use plutonium pellets for a bigger kok lol, but that's an entirely different topic

I agree fully. If you are going to go to the trouble of a marine tank, there are tons of cool saltwater fish that you can keep. NO need to keep freshwater fish in a marine tank.

Plus, it's a TON more difficult and expensive to keep up a marine aquarium, so why would you want to if you are going to keep freshwater fish in it that can just be kept in an easy to maintain freshwater tank???
