Festae or myan?

Mayan / Uro's, pretty ugly and sick, and beat up. (Speaking from experience of having them.)

Uros/Mayans are really under rated. I had a gorgeous one a few years ago. It was a pale red and steel blue. Grown them out out and see how they look.

Festae and Mayan are both sold as "Red Terrors". The eye spot on the tail of a Mayan will be bigger and more centered and on the Festae will be off centered towards the top of the fish. Plus, the Mayan will not have the "Y" shaped bar either. I once bought Mayan while looking for Festae... as stated above Mayan are really nice fish, but if you were looking for Festae they do come up short, IMO. Good luck!!

its a mayan. festae and mayans are listed as red terrors. you can always tell by the spot on their tails. mayans have more of an oval shape thats bigger and festaes are more smaller and more of a circular shape. festaes also have a lot more color than mayans.

Thanks folks! I haven't bought any of these guys, wanted to know for sure what they were. May pick one up and see how it goes but they are pretty scraggly looking. Still up in the air.

Exactly, the simplest way to differentiate is the "y" bar starting on the forehead....festaes have them, uros dont

If you are looking for a festae, go after for a festae not an uro! totally different fish with different everything.

New hobbyists to cichlids dont know how to tell them. And from that they got a stupid name like "False Festaes". Mayans are Mayans an festaes are Festaes.

Neither one are false nor do they try to be like each other. Only the person looking for a Festae but has a Mayan. lol
