I'm either going to do a Festae Red Terror pair or a single male umbee.

Which would you all prefer?

I'm considering which is prettier, more aggressive, personality. (My dovii was very shy and I hated it).

I love observing my fish so I want something that'll put on a show.

Festae pair or male umbee?

How big is the tank? When keeping a pair in a 180g, there is a chance you can lose either festae due to breeding aggression.

I know. I'm talking fry here people. Festae take forever to grow and I have larger tanks. I only asked for a preference of the two based on personality, appearance, and aggression. Space is not an issue as I have a 240g tank that the pair or the single umbee will be moved to when the time is right.

I breed festae and have a small bit of experience with them lol. A 125 is fine for a festae pair for quite some time. I would grow out multiple individuals in the 125 and allow them to pair off naturally and then remove the rest. The one thing i have to disagree with is the growth rate on festae, i find that it is a misconception with their growth. Once they hit sexual maturity, males can blow up. check out my male..

125 can definitely work for festae, I just meant I wouldn't personally do it. rather give them more room.

it's certainly not big enough for a male umbee, and I don't think it's unreasonable that we checked. glad OP has a bigger tank!

T TillmanCJ i think it really comes down to what you want. A male umbriferurm will be a completely different experience than a festae pair. Personally i love festae and have no regrets picking them. However festae pairs are a lot of work, you have to be very patient and always have a close eye and be ready to divide. I love the payoff of having a beautiful festae pair with fry and in a pair as they would be in the wild. But that's my opinion.
