Festae/Ornatum HELP

would a 72 gallon work for the festae , it is currently empty but still running and cycled ,i know u said 20g max , i could divide the 72 to make it smaller,sorry to ask but why low temperature for the festae
 
10 and 20g tanks are smaller and preferrably the size of choice when treating fish because you dont have to use as much meds which is cheaper in the long run, also allows for better med concentration, theyre easier to do water changes. if you dont have a smaller tank to use then make it work with what you have, and you cant put the ornatum and festae in the same tank and divide them and then start treating lol both require different meds and water temps. worse case scenario if you dont have the extra space to treat them both, i would personably treat the festae since it seems to me like it will have a better chance of survival, the ornatum has bloat and seems like it has for some time. if you research bloat and such you will see that usually after a fish gets it, its all over. thats just me, wet spot has them but at smaller sizes if you need to have ornatums. but like i said its just my opinion and i would cut my losses with the ornatum. good luck tho
 
lower temps inhibit bacterial growth while higher temps encourage. I still recommend a smaller tank, even if you use a rubbermaid tub that is like a 10-20 gal tank, for reasons freshwater mentioned. And me personally I don't give up unless I know for sure my fish has something I can't get rid of, and if it is the case I put it to sleep
 
k ima throw my fish from my 30g to the 72 and put the festae in the 30g and lower the temp to 80F and then treat with clout , and i treat with clout every day , till he is cured , thanks u guys now i gotta get to work
 
Wow... Clout is for bloat, parastites, etc.... he said use that for the Ornatum, along with the Epsom salt. the festae doesnt need that. you said the festae had a cut that looked infected, which needs different meds. Look google fishpharmacy.com they have all the questions and meds you can order. you can even call them and talk to a "fish DR." Both fish need to be in own little quarantine tanks and being treated with different meds lol good luck

For your festae with the bad slice in his side, he or she needs to be alone in a smaller tank, 10-20 gallons max, over a week slowly lower the temp to about 75 and start treating for bacterial infections with clout. keep feeding the festae with higher protein foods, live if possible but not live fish. watch your festae really closely. and if you want you can also treat it with epsom salt.

Now your ornatum, It NEEDS TO BE ALONE. put it in its own tank, its size will be fine in a 10g tank for a few weeks, treat with epsom salt but in water and with a needle, treat according to RD's recommendation. also Treat with metro, both in water and with a needle, if you can't get metro walmart has jungle meds, check and make sure it has metro in it and use that. keep temps over 86, not bellow, you can even go to 88-89 to make sure it isnt bellow 86. BE VERY GENTLE WITH THIS FISH!!!

And remember Water change daily and refill with epsom treated water. If you don't have 10g tanks go get some =p if possible

Lol no biggie, I've only ever used clout for hexamita which is bloat. And it works great for that, Ive never used it for anything else lol but MEDS usually treat more than one thing.
 
I only said clout for the festae because someone before had mentioned it, I have never experienced such a bad infection and usually just use tetracycline and marcyn 1 and 2 for bacterial infections.
Epsom and metro or epsom and clout for your ornatum
