festae pairing up?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You didnt happen to get these Festae of ChrisM from UK/EACG?

I must've picked some up from maybe the batch earlier!

I bought 12 off him, he gave 15, top guy! But only 2 are female from the dorsal fin spot test, at this point anyway :-) One is more dominant then the other, and her colors show through more. I have come home to see the gravel cleared and think somethings gna happen soon, but not sure which male might be the partner.

Back to point, from the pics they all look male, but keep an eye out on the smaller ones as they develop. For me, the difference in spotting on the dorsal fins are pretty obvious at a certain size.

hi,good gess, how did you know, chris is a top guy,he helped me out big time,

Good luck on the pairing. They look to be A+ quality despite their sex.

@ Balton777, Dude, That male in your avatar is a beast!

i would say those are def 100% MALE, and they are perfect examples of how tranny festae can be, sometimes even at larger sizes and that you can't always go by dorsal, main thing i look at once they are larger is the spangling in the fins and on their bodies, older females wont have this spangling. of course you could just vent them and be done with the guesswork

What if I told you the 2nd link is a female?

Females "almost never" exhibit spangling at larger sizes. But that doesn't mean it never happens. There are exceptions to every rule when it involves Festae.

While you do have a point bomillyiam, I think that 99% of the time Sarah88 is going to be right on the money with how shes sexing them. I believe the point your trying to make is that for one to be 100% you need to vent, which I agree with.
