I'm going to post quick vids of my 3 festaes. What are the differences between the traits between the two. Included vids instead of pics just to provide a better visual. Any inputs from people whom have knowledge in this field is appreciated. Thank you!

Which one are these?
#1 4.5" Male
#2 6.5" Female
#3 4" Male

Anyone here have traditional characteristics for each festae's locale? Coloration wise, shape, etc? Of course, this specie is intermixed quite frequently as captive bred, but still will have a more dominant feature of their locality over the other. Inputs anybody?

I am far from an expert but IMO your fish finage looks like it could "POSSIBLY" be from Taiwan, (I don't know though)... They have introduced festae over there and sell them in large quantities. All of the festae in the your video's have similar finage. Once again I can be wrong as I don't claim to be an expert on this, I just truly love festae and I now own, breed, and hoard this species. I currently have eight DIFFERENT Line all Ecuadorian and I am completely consumed with this species. But I can be wrong about were your fish are from. The BEST way for you to find out is ask the person who you received the fish from and ask them. In doing this, you are forced to rely on the credibility of that breeder or distributor. The female in the second video has nice color but ends of the finage still sticks out to me. As far as Ecuadorian and Peruvian goes, it seems that the Ecuadorian have higher bodies as for Peruvian more often have more of a torpedo look or not as tall look. This COULD possibly mean that the Rio Tumbes/Peru river could be stronger in current or shallower (I am not sure). Please understand as I am not a expert on this but through research and talking to people that has kept festae for over 15+ years. I am always learning.

Hope this helps and good luck!!!

theres a thread somewhere on here started by nwatson on festae locality difference.

Thanks for the lead to look up.

@ Superchargedcichlidkennel _ These were purchased from my lfs, Wetspot Tropical Fish whom have a well respected reputation for their quality and large array of selections. All that was mentioned is that these specifically were captive bred. Of course, depending on the batch and parents. The fry seem to differ in appearance, especially in coloration. Hence, this is why I'm asking as I know there is cross breeding. But characteristics will still be heavy towards a locality.

Awsome....I have also purchased fish from Wetspot. I have actually purchased some festae from them a little while back. I wonder were they got them from? Anyways, I will also look for that thread that fishman09 stated.

Good Luck and GO GO GO Festae

Hmm.... I've heard from a few lil birdies that wetspot is among the distributors who purchase festae from southeast asia;) which is where all these fresh wild Ecuador festae are flooding in from. So whether labeled f1, f0 if its from wetspot or any of the other distributors I know of it must be safe to say that those particular festae are bred in southeast Asia.

And supercharge is correct about being hard to completely affirm the actual locales of festae, let alone any fish:) all I have seen in the hobby are trends from one fish to the next linked from their original seller. But tryin to base those off of what, the truth from what they say!! Lol so anyway imo those who would have the best idea would be those who have collected themselves in different areas to compare any differences if any. Like supercharge I am no expert and I wouldn't want to be the guy who claims to know it all even if I did know;) lol
