Festae Peru or Ecuador Trait

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmm.... I've heard from a few lil birdies that wetspot is among the distributors who purchase festae from southeast asia;) which is where all these fresh wild Ecuador festae are flooding in from. So whether labeled f1, f0 if its from wetspot or any of the other distributors I know of it must be safe to say that those particular festae are bred in southeast Asia.

And supercharge is correct about being hard to completely affirm the actual locales of festae, let alone any fish:) all I have seen in the hobby are trends from one fish to the next linked from their original seller. But tryin to base those off of what, the truth from what they say!! Lol so anyway imo those who would have the best idea would be those who have collected themselves in different areas to compare any differences if any. Like supercharge I am no expert and I wouldn't want to be the guy who claims to know it all even if I did know;) lol

The source you mentioned can be a possibility, especially, my prior being in the parts distribution biz for over 10 years. Nothing surprises me anymore, lol. I've only been keeping a few for 6 month'ish now. Have glanced at other festae threads and haven't given it much thought really. I just appreciate their sheer beauty. Whether it's wild, F1, or created in a lab. This topic I bring up is due to the males being totally different in coloration. Once is more yellowish green than the other, while the other is red. I guess it doesn't matter too much as long as I like it. :D

Exactly, I believe at the end of the day as long as your happy is all that matters:) And maybe one of these days, these "quality" festae will be more readily available at reasonble prices:) Untill then i am sure that the majority will buy whats affordable;)

There is so many variances. Some with dark black eyes, some not, faded lines with pale coloration 24/7, some are super reddish orange all the time. Fun species to tinker with though, lol. Meanwhile, here are some photos I just took. You'll notice the two 4"-4.5" males are so different. Perhaps some will be stunners when full grown.
