festae photo

No such thing as festaes growing fast lol my guy grew 3 inches in 6 months. Good luck though.

Actually miricles even happen with festae too;) I know the consensus is that festae are slow growers, ive had festae grow 3-4 inches in one year and others that went from 1.5" to 7.5" in less than 8 months:) maybe there was something in the water lol

but anyway to the OP, nice festae and pic too:) keep the updates coming.

when I said fast I didnt mean oscar fast lol
I can notice some nice growth on them already though
they get fed a small ammount about 5 times a day and always hungry

I'll keep updating the photos and probably start a progression thread

really looking forward to watching them grow out :)

I agree. My first group of Festae had steady growth. Within a year I grew them out from 1" to 5"-6.5".That may be slow when compared to other cichlids but I still think it shows that not all Festae will only grow extremely slow. I've had had my current growouts a little over a month and I am also noticing steady growth with them in both length and girth. 50% water changes a week, NLS three times a day, and occasional Brine Shrimp. I don't do anything dramatic with any of my growouts so I think a lot has to do with their genetics and tank space provided.
 
VERY NICE!!! Did you ask them where they were from?
The color on them is different, than lets say an equadorian...
could be a peruvian or maybe COLUMBIAN......
If you can find out, that would be great.........very nice and good luck!!!!
 
I'll see what I can find out about the parents
I got them from Florida Tropical Fish Direct

I know the father is a wild caught and the mother is an F1 pictured on thier webpage

I'll have to send them some mail and ask, I would be interested in knowing as well
