So this is kind of a twist to the cichlid world, So almost every male cichlid looks better than the female of the same specie, But it's completely different with Festae, Female's are amazing.
yeah its true the female festae have much brighter reds than the male, but if you see an awesome big male festae in breeding colors you will think twice, they are both amazing in their own ways IMO

Yeah, But I'd take a fish that has good color at all times then just in breeding time.

yeah but females aren't that bright red all the time either, they are a much duller red when not breeding and their stripes aren't as vibrant. but its every ones' personal opinion, i used to love the females and hate on the males when i first learned about these guys but the more males i see the more i am loving their bright golds/greens and spangling. but i think everyone on here has one gender of festae they love more than the other lol

Yeah I get what you're saying, I used to hate all cichlids when I started but I started seeing cichlids like Texas,JD's,Jag's,FH's and I was amazed by the different color patterns and each different cichlid's behavior was so much different compared to the killer fish, such as rtc's, Pacu , etc, They're is nothing wrong with the killers but you need to change you're variety every once and awhile.

You have a great looking Festae. It should grow to be quite the beast as long as the Dovii is moved out. I have both male and female Festae. The dom. female is always gorgeous as she is ready to breed. The male flashes his colors in between his constant digging of pits. I agree with Sarah, males and females have their own beauty.

I disagree, mine is a bright vibrant red 24/7....365 days a year.

I do know what you mean though, female Festae often will look washed out in color with no competition in the tank or when not breeding.

Even though my female is a beauty, I like my male better. His personality is way more outgoing and looks really cool too.
