HITH isn't just due to water quality. PH, hardness, aggression and diet all can contribute.
Even carnivorous cichlids need some type of algae or veggie based foods. I read an article that most get this veggie matter by their prey, which in the wild are more inclined to eat plants and algae.
While the water quality isn't bad, the lower your nitrates are the more the fish will heal.
Also temps and airation matter too. Sometimes it's multiple factors.
With good conditions, diet and medication those fish can be saved. Just my experience.
