Festae- Quality VS Trash!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LOL, and so does the world also have Handsome people and Unattractive people. However, I cannot make aware, and bring to attention that there are some people that are deemed "Unattractive".

1. Yes, it's being said that there are "Trash" fish out there. (Its like saying theres Trash humans out there)
2. Yes, it's being said that there are Deformed fishes out there. (Deformed humans too)
3. Yes, it's being suggested that only the Quality should be bred and the Trash should not. (Quality human beings should only have babies and people with handicaps should not have babies at all)

Sometimes its easier to say about animals, but to really see how bad it really sounds is to think of what we are saying and apply to US, human beings. It's really like saying, "I am not bashing anyone, but there are "handicap" people out there. Just to let everyone know that some people have deformities and bad genetics, bad complexion. Yup Im not hatin' but just throwin it out there."

The fact is that there are quality and some that are not up to par. But if you dont like a fish...Dont Buy It.

Trying to treat animals like people is just irrational and a fundamental logical fallacy. We don't eat people we don't ride people we don't put down people we don't line breed people or engineer people. Animals don't deserve poor care but you realize the upkeep of a strong healthy pet is more than the tank in witch it resides as this is a thread pertaining to breeding. This isn't a thread so much attacking the deformed animals as the reckless production of them for money. Granted the terminology "TRASH" sounds pretty sever or even poorly placed the foundation of the thread is solid.

Initially you stated:

The front lateral bar doesn't form a distinct "y" with the second and the eye spot in the caudalpeduncle is much larger than normally seen in Festae.

I clearly see a distinct "y" bar, actually much more so than in the photos of the fish that you just posted. I agree that the eye spot is much more elongated than what one would typically see on a juvie festae, no question about that, but I never said that these were prime examples of the typical markings that one can expect on juvenile festae. As far as body shape goes, at 2-3" I wouldn't expect them to have the same body shape as adults.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

I've enjoyed this thread and learned a few things, thanks to those who have contributed meaningful posts. Thread cleaned, lets avoid the personal attacks and leave the side banter to PM please. Thanks guys!

PS - Aquamojo, please stop trying to pass that off as a festae, we all know it's a painted a dinner plate.
(just kidding, couldn't help myself sorry) How old was that pair?

I hear your the festae guru so yeah, it would be nice to see some pics of your festae. We are getting a few pics of the deformities, lets see some examples of quality as well ;)

I'm not seeing the deformities that you are talking about. What exactly about these fish do you think are deformed?

Its ok, I can hardly see it either witht those pics. but did you see the pic R.D referrenced? that was one of the same fish and there i can clearly see the hunchback of norte dame LOL anyway jokes aside, those were the same pics i saw before i purchased them. as soon as i opened the bags and put them in my tank, it was very clear that everyone had a slight hump goin on which got worse as they grew.

This is what you would call a "Generic" festae i guess. I have no idea where it comes from or how far out of the wild it is , I picked it up at my LFS one day. Is there any " deformities" on this fish? I really do not know what to look for and it really does not matter to me, im not breeding it or anything, he is just a cool fish that I enjoy. Most of my fish are from good trusted sources that im pretty sure of their origin. Festae all look so different from their pics , I could not honestly tell what is a ideal specimen.

There is nothing wrong with this festae, no deformities at all and thank you for the pics.

Those are exactly the pictures I saw...and I don't think it's "pretty obvious". To me they look like Uropthalmus. The eye spot is much larger than what you would see on Festae, the body shape more torpedo.... Like I said, I've been wrong before...this is just personal experience for whatever that's worth.

Here's some of mine:

Thank you Mo for these nice pics of these beasts of festaes:) And yes those were festae and the deformities were alot easier to see in person than in pics.
