I was looking into getting a festae. But here lies my question. I was checking cichlid forum about these guys. It seems that its only females that have the most color and males are kind of blandish in color. Is this true? And if you have festae pics please show em and label them accordingly please :)

Its subjective, but I think what youve heard couldnt be farther from the truth. Males arent bland in the least and look just as good as females, just different colors.

Heres a link to a thread, using the search, from when they were Jasons "Species of the Month".

Good luck finding some to buy right now. They seem to be hard to come by, to say the least, according to those looking.

its which you prefer but females do tend to get brighter and it seems usually more hobbiest seek the female a little more then the male. google female festae and then google male festae and click on the images. you will see a ton of pictures. females look like the one in my avatar some have a little more yellow to them.

Yeah I googled them and it seems that the females are the ones that have the color that pop.

i took the liberty of doing it for you but after i posted i see you already checked. male do get larger then the females. females usually 9-11 inches. males 12-15 inches. they say they can get alot larger but ive seen some old ones one here and have never seen any over 15.

We just got a pair the male is around 6 inches the frmale a little smaller do the males show stripes and the dot or is that a female thing because our male looks very similar to the female?

males can look like females when they have there breeding colors but usually the male doesnt show the stripes like the female unless aggrevated by another fish or breeding color.

Thanks he may be just showing the other fish in the tank he is boss just put them in our 230 ca tank.

Looks I have a challenge on my hand. I can't seem to locate one for sale lol. I'll keep looking for a nice female.
