About two years ago I had to sell my pair, because I was getting married and needed to up the funds.
After spending the last year growing out and trying to get my hands on another pair I think I got one!! The male is about 12" and female 9". They are starting to show signs of seperating from the group and digging, but my concern is that they are definetly alot more aggressive in the prespawn rituals.
As I am writing this they have been liplocked for 20 minutes, I don't know if they are just a little kinky or I should be worried. Neither fish is backing down and it looks like the smaller female is actually winning. I will try to get pics, but I am in a full arm cast.. Any input from other festae breeders is greatly appreciated

mine werent aggressive with each other like that at all before they spawned. Now, what happened when I went to bed I dont know, but I never saw anything but tail whipping and the "dance" so to speak.

My male did kill 3 other females before he finally liked that last one I put with him though.

Good Luck!

How many fishes are in the tank? If you dont see them chasing off other fishes most of the time and only concentrating on fighting each other than you should seperate them before it gets bad.

try throwing in a threat. Like a bit bigger fish or same size. See if they team up to fight it off. If they dont, they are not a pair and dont ven like each other.

wish I can show you my pair of Carpinte defending against a bigger Red texas. I broke my camera.

But they always stick together. They even bite the other fish together at the same time.

If your fishes dont stick together, on top of that fight each other, then it aint workin out at this time bro. I dont think they are a pair nor do they like each other.

got pix or video?

Same with mine. The only problem i've had is if she isn't ready to breed then He beats the crap out of Her and they have to be divided.Good luck!
