try throwing in a threat. Like a bit bigger fish or same size. See if they team up to fight it off. If they dont, they are not a pair and dont ven like each other.

If your fishes dont stick together, on top of that fight each other, then it aint workin out at this time bro. I dont think they are a pair nor do they like each other.

:screwy:thats not true at all, except that "it might not be workin out at this time".

I had my festae pair with a par of jags, a pair of grammodes, 15+ convicts, a male trimac, a pictus and a syno and they spawned in the tank and never so much as chased any of the other fish...until about 4 days after the fry were swimming.

I have had Dovii & RTMs in the same tank/ same situation with multiple spawnings in the same tank and they never chased anyone pre-spawn either.

And in all honesty, before a spawn (or ever for that matter), I have NEVER had any pair join together to fight off anyone (unless it was their nesting area). It always amazed me at how the males would never defend the females if someone messed with them or harassed them...theyd let them get their ***es kicked.

Now, after they fry hatch, its a different story.

not true for you.. But are you sure not true at all? So you think I made it up or somethin?

no, I dont think youre making it up. I think thats the experience youve had with your carpintis pair, but I dont think that saying the following

try throwing in a threat. Like a bit bigger fish or same size. See if they team up to fight it off. If they dont, they are not a pair and dont ven like each other.

is the least bit true at all...especially saying they are not a pair and dont even like each other.

In the past year alone, Ive had 5 different breeding pairs of cichlids that didnt display the behavior youre saying they should have...and they all spawned. To me, thats pretty conclusive evidence to form my opinion on. Im not saying it doesnt happen, Im saying I dont believe your hypothesis that if they dont team up and fight fish off that they arent a pair.
