An Epsome salt dip will flush the system allowing some of the parasites and eggs to pass out of the fish. This is helpful in cases of heavy or stubborn infestations. The fish should be treated with metro to kill the remaining parasites. Epsome salt baths are also useful in treating bacterial infections of the intestial tract which somtimes show the same symtoms as intestinal parasites.
No argument there Tom, but the overall effect of a bath at that dip rate will be minimal. A 3% solution administered via food, or injected orally via a pipette will totally eradicate the more common internal parasites such as spironucleus. It's dirt cheap, far safer than most medications, and IME far more effective. It's also something that most hobbyists aren't aware of, hence the reason why I posted that link.

I read the articals and thought both were great. Thanks for reposting it. Do you think the average hobbiest would be afraid to try it though? I agree it would be much safer and cheaper than the standard treatment with meds. Again thanks for the links Ryan as always very informative.

If so I don't know why anyone would be afraid to try the 3% oral epsom salt treatment. I wish I had known about this form of treatment years ago. So much easier on a fish than the vast majority of meds, very effective, and dirt cheap. A few of the FH folks have tried it & had the same success as I did on my fish, which in my case at the time I felt for sure the fish was a lost cause.

Sorry Neil, I was reading Als post and got confused with the names, yes that was to you. If I ever have the need to I will give that a try. Let's hope I don't need it.
mine ended up ok. usually the jungle parrisite clear has always worked for me with one treatment but this time i kept pounding away with a treatment every other day for about 10 days. then it finally cleared up. hardest case of parrisite ive ever had to clear up.
