Here are some updated pics of the female Festae I picked up from my LFS on 8/4. She's really started to color up nicely now. I asked before but posted some really bad/confusing pics. This is a female, correct?

Beautiful fish - can't help you with male/female though.

Do you see her/him fighting a lot with the Trimac?

i can see where your coming from, lots of cyan scales on the body - resemblimg a male. BUT that is definatley a female... black or the dorsal sais it all.

Thanks for all the kind words. She's turning out to be a very nice impulse buy:D

She gets along fine with them for some reason. Maybe cause they're smaller than her. She'll hang out near her driftwood and the Trimacs will swim around. She only chases them when they get close to her spot but that's it. I haven't seen any aggression during feeding time either.

Yours was a beauty, she made me want to get one. Sorry to hear about your loss.

dont be fooled by the black in the dorsal fin i've seen males with black in the dorsal i had a wild caught from rapps with black in the fin not saying its a male or female but black in dorsal fin dont mean that everytime.

festae and carpinte both get black on the dorsal whether or not it is a male or female.
male and female festae have distinct features that show the sex.
just by looking at a female festae you should know by the dark
patterns on the body.
males have blue on their fins and females have more dark shades on them.
females also seem to look a big more red.

this festae does have some blue but i'm sticking with female.
