I'd say the hait when they are under 10".But 10" or larger the festae.
All the haitiensis I've owned were killed by grammodes or argentea long before they made 5" but the festea survived so i'd say festea. but as stated I never owned a haitensis over 5" My festea were more stand offish they didn't really attack but didn't back down either. The haiteniensis got stressed when the other totally dominated them & would die later even after other fish were removed. Haties. have to be dominant or solo feteas are more tolerant As stated individuals will exhibit different levels of aggression. But on average hatiensis are seemingly more aggressive because if they are not ruler of the tank they die, festea can live on either side of the pecking order.Hatiensis are on a different level until something stands up to them then they run & never again regain their confidence at least not the 5 I tried.

Lol wow I totally forgot I posted this:) and it was brought back;) but anyway I've learned alot since then and it depends on individual species for the most part but haits need special attention till they hit 5" and should be raised as species tank till then for best results. I have raised the festae and haits together and they did quite well in fact. But thus was only from 1/5" up to 3" then things change. From here on out if I plan on being successful with either species I grow out haits together with nothing else and festae are hardier when smaller and can easily go with fish of similiar temperament and water parameters.

with certain fish you can say...."it depends on the individal personality of the fish".........NOT with the Black Nasties.....they are on a level with Umbie and Dovi.......maybe more.... I always wanted to keep Festae with Nasties and I do have both at the moment but a male Nasty has already killed a female nasty at 2 inches in a 50 gal tank.....so I thru him in a 750 gal tank with large Midas....lets see how he does/////
the festae are very socialable so far with vieja species......same size fish and tanks.....just my 2 cents.....

how many photos have you seen on the net with black nastys(full grown) living with other fish??????
I have seen many photos of festaes living with others!!!!

Valid point. I haven't seen many full grown haits with other fish either but that might also be because most of the time they are hard to obtain and not that many adults in the hobby compared to festae. That's not saying they are any less aggressive

best way that i can explain it is that the dovii, hait, festae all reach there most agressive stage at different sizes so theres no way to tell. i have a few female haits that are so mean and NASTY and try and will kill anything within a few inches of theres size. i also have dovii male and female that smack the glass so hard i swear its gonna break it. i also have festae that have killed antything in the same tank within mins. all different sizes. no way to really tell. there all mean!
