I have access to these three species. Which pair would you choose for a 4x2 120 gal? I don't want to use a divider either...

Thanks

Haitiensis for sure, very rare in the UK, very tough to grow-out as well apparently.

Thanks for the responses. I'm most concerned with which species will tolerate their mate the best. I'm thinking argentea will be most tolerant...

Keep in mind the tank is only a 4fter

i have no experience with these so this is just what iv read from others and iv seen lots of people post pics of their argentea pair with dividers in saying that unless theyr breeding they cant be together or he beats her up, maybe a pair where the female is alot smaller could be easier as you could provide hiding spaces that only she fits into so the male cant get to her, this could work with festae though the males grow to like 20in so that would be pretty big as he would grow longer than your tank is wide, im growing some festae fry right now but will only be keeping a female in my 5ft 120g tank with tankmates because i try to keep fish that dont grow longer than tank is wide, but ive seen their parents personally and they are quite a sight to see:drool:

The tank is 24" wide

With any of these species the hardest part, and I have kept them all, it's whether or not you get a compatable pair.
My alpha male F1 argentea killed all others, my haitiensus pair have generally been very tolerent of each other. But I always keep a divider at the ready. At a moments notice things can go ballistic with any cichlid.

oh ok sorry my 120 is 5'x18in so thats what i was thinking of, but then i would definitely do a festae pair they are gorgeous, and the male really SHINES when in his breeding colors:headbang2

All three species are awesome. I've never kept Odos or kept Argentea as a pair so I can't speak for them. I've kept many Festae though and once they pair up, they seem to tolerate each other pretty well. Getting a compatible pair is another story, I've lost numerous Festae males and females before they pair up due to conspecific aggression. I've not one kill their mate though as pair and I haven't had to divide them ever. GL whichever way you go.
