Males are absolutely brutal, females can be so-so but still violent no matter what.

I've seen a group in an 8x2x2 tank (possibly 6x2x2) consisting of 1 adult male and 4 adult females living peacefully, but from what I understand they need about a 150 gallon to breed or the male will beat the piss out of the females.

My experience with Festae is different than yours. My female killed 4 males before accepting one. She wouldn't accept any other Festae in the tank, male or female, but ignored all other fish.

I'm speaking in terms of grown adults, where the males are twice the size of the females. Either way they're pretty slow growers, so you've got plenty of time to sort things out.

I would say more around 15-16" for males, I've heard people saying 18-20 but never seen any proof and 12" is probably about right for females.

I'd suggest using a divider after you get a pair. I'm pretty sure that my male would kill my female if I didn't have a divider and males are notorious for killing smaller females. Expect them to grow around 1/2" per month

you slow there growth or even stunt it if you breed them. dont believe the stats. the biggest male ive seen on here was like 14 maybe 15 inches and most are around 12 and females are around 7-10. those are the sizes you will find on here if you search them. but like the one guy said you can find some peaceful females but hardly ever a large male.
