Well as some may recall I have a beastial female festae (4.5") with the temprament of a rhino with cayenne pepper sprinkled on its rear end. Basically ive found a 8" male in the state im moving to - and have subsequently put my big GT for sale. Ive sealed the deal on the 6x2x2 and just wondering if the two together will work or my female will go byebyes one day.

I dont want to divide the tank either, at best ill dodgy up a flower pot with a hole only she can get through.

Will it work?

This is the male for sale.

Also this guy would kill a same sized gold saum even in a 6x2x2 correct?

every fish is different as far as personality so this question can not be answered until you try it. just put alot of decor in the tank for her to hide in or by and give it a shot.

you never know. Lots of cover and dithers will help spread aggression and offers hiding spaces. I heard with festaes that are introduced ad adults it is sometimes neccesary to have a divider until they get use to each other. With that size of tank it, I would not turn it down.

If I do any dividing it will be for the 9x carpinti growouts which I dont want either festae to be anywhere near.

I think if I get rid of my GT before leaving ill get the big festae; ill make a few flowerpots with a hole her size should she want to get away from him.

I hate the way divided tanks look and almost refuse to do it, but can't say I never have. As soon as my recently acquired wounded female Festae was almost healed, I put her in a tank with my 9" 'Hell with Fins' male. I suppose I'm a bit of a risk taker but you never know until you try. Congrats on the pickup and GL with yours what ever you decide to do.

Ive heard that unless the pair has a strong bond, a divider will be necessary. your male is quite a bit larger and if you dont feel like taking a big risk, put the divider in.

You'll more have to watch her if you're putting him in her tank. Female festae are just as mean if not meaner than males. Watch them closely and leave the lights on overnight when you introduce them. Festae are one of those gamble fish. My large pair gets obstinate with each other on occasion. The male of the smaller pair killed his mate one night when everything seemed to be fine that day. He subsequently died of some head infection a few weeks later. I think it made him go nuts and kill her. My friend's female 13" would kill every male he introduced her to no matter which tank they met. No matter how much time they spent with a divider between them and no matter how many hiding places either. Just a really mean fish.

If it's was the 55 gallon in his sig, I'd say you're right but in a 180, there's much less risk.

I've totally forgotten the 9x 2" h.carpinte's.. Im thinking to save the lives of the little ones to stick with the mild mannered tank ruler, my 8" GT - he loves everyone in the tank and hates anything out of it. I think ill stick with being happy with the female I always wanted.

I want to get into breeding these carpinte's as it seems they are less touch and go together..

Thanks for all the opinions guys - the 4.5" festae scares me enough so I think ill leave the big boy.
Everything in my sig will be plopped into the 6x2x2 - hoping that having 9 of the texas keeps aggression down till pairs start forming; will keep you all informed of the move/growout.

Too bad you opted not to get the male I luv festae myself but introducing males to females is definatley rolling the dice...............from what i understand if the male sees or feels an type of defect in the female he'll kill her, I've seen it happen in my tanks twice. 9 Carpintes..................now that's something to worry about.
