I have a 55 gallon tall aquarium. I was thinking about getting a couple of festivum cichlids. I only have one severum about 1/2 dollar size and one tiger barb in there now.

Do severums and festivums get along together?

i have sev experience and tiger barb together thats about it. One suggestion is to get a couple 3 maybe 4 more tiger as they will be happyer in a group and less nippy towards your other fish. goodluck

I think a 55 gallon tank is too small for combination of fish that you have planned, I have a 6 1/2 inch festivum in my 125 community mixed w/ ca & sa cichlids and he holds his own against a similar sized green terror, synspilum, and jack dempey. I assume that when both fish are approaching full size they will want the entire tank for their territory unless you have a male and female :(

if it is just for a growout for a some time it should be fine, being that they are 2 pretty compatible species though.

Actually, it should be fine for ever.. And get at least 4 more barbs! Good luck

I've kept festivums with many aggressive cichlids and they always seem to flourish. They are very hardy, robust cichlids, and it takes a lot to bring them down. Aggression towards each other can be a problem though, so either get a solo one, try for a pair, or get a large group. Since your tank isn't very large, especially since its a tall, either a pair or a single festivum would be best.

Definately up the tiger barbs though, as the pelvic fins of the festivum will be very tempting for a solo one.

yea id say your stocking sounds good there are always some severums that wont tolerate any othey fish, but otherwise there awesome fish and very compatible
