I bought a 1.5" Festivum 4 months ago and now he is already a very fat 4.5"!

I only feed small hikari pellets once a day with a pinch of flake food for the smaller fish in the tank, never bother with frozen or live food.

These things grow as fast as Oscars!

Hes really peaceful, hes in my Severum community, he eats like a pig!

here he is....

No reply? he is now around 5.5" and only a bit smaller than my big Severum.

When i bought him 5 months ago he was no bigger than 1.5" and my Red Spotted Severum was around 7.5-8", the Red Severum has not grown and inch but the Festivum is catching him up.

He is the fastest growing fish other than a Oscar that i have ever kept in 15 years keeping Cichlids growing at a inch a month, he has got very fat and stocky, very greedy at feedign time (once a day on small sized hikari pellets)

Mine grew pretty fast and they do eat a lot. These are mesonauta egregius whiched about 5" before their growth pretty much stopped. I love Mesonauta sp. absolutly great fish. I always kept groups to spread out any aggression, solo fish can become pretty aggressive at times and are much better kept in groups much like Angelfish or Discus. They love to folow my angels around but rarly will they interact with them it's an interesting dynamic.

Looks like a nice fish, not sure what type mine is, he looks similar but some times has brown along with the yellow depending on his mood, mines a solo fish, only one they had in the shop back then and got no room for anymore in my 75g which is stocked with a few male Severums.

You are lucky. The one I had must have been a runt, he grew very slow and maxed at about 4.5 inches over the 18 months i had him. He was in a 55 with a few other tankmates I don't recall at the moment.

Someone told me mine is the True festivus, does he look like that to you? (not that i mind, but cool to know either way)

It looks like it could be, honestly some times is diffacult for me to tell the species apart. Mesonauta festivus can get pretty big 6 to 8" wouldn't be unheard of for a large male.
