Is it true that rays do better in groups? I plan on getting 3 5-6 inch motoro's, 2 females and one male in the hopes to breed them down the line. Also, are marbles worth the heavier price tag? They look cool but i heard some of the patterns are lost when they grow and I wasn't sure if they were worth it.

Thanks

Also, ive heard people say marbles stay smaller than regular motoros, is there any truth to this?

I am not exactly sure if marbles will not grow as big as regular motoros. I have heard of marbles hitting 18in, so 20in plus is possible.

As far as them being worth the extra $$$. If you plan on breeding them for profit, marbles would be the way to go. Market is flooded with regular motoros. Marbles are also in hgher demand.

I would say for breeding get marbles, for your own pleasure, get whateer looks goods to you.

yeh get waht you like, rather than what will everyone else want....
if u like a motoro get a motoro,
if u like a marble because its what everyone else wants.... lol spend some more time looking.

yeh in groups they tend to nip on each others tails, but it should be okay.
Also make sure u can feed them all, otherwise the most active oen will always get the food.

And they eat a lot when the get larger. Between the 3 pbass and the 2 motoro rays I go through a 5 lb box of shrimp each week.

Make sure you can house them. IF kept properly you could have 3 rays that are a foot across after a year. Factor in the bio load this creates, the WCs that will be required and the food they are going to destroy.

I've seen no evidence of Marbles staying smaller. I have one that's pushing around 18. It depends on the individual fish. Some Motoros may grow much slower but no one can say for sure if thier max size is truley smaller.

Good luck......

Im gonna agree with DB here.

We've also seen smaller variants of black rays at a very large size as compared to what we would see of their larger cousins. I think that both will get to the same size.

Any type of ray is good for breeding, but if starting money is an issue, breed regular motoro's, theres nothing wrong with that. Unless you are harboring a very large facility, it is going to be difficult to harvest a profit off of breeding them. And its no quick process either.

So my summary is, get three (if you can properly house them and do your research) of the kind you want to own, not just the kind that may potentially make you the most money.

one thing to consider... cause some bubbles need to be broke on this forum... breeding motoros is not going to make you money.... the amount you put in and fact that nobody really wants motoro anymore.... see my reg motoro pups sell locally for like 40-60 a piece i sell my marbles for 250... there is no money in rays unless your set up like mike...

a pair will work for breeding... not always can a person have 3 all ya need is a male and female...

Yup.... A pair may be better, as there is going to be a pair when you have 3 the third is just not gonna be overly happy IMO.

I have a pond with 3 mature females and 1 mature male. Guess how many ladies have ever been prego?
