1. Actual full grown TL-do they really only get 5''-6''?

2. Sexing-how do you tell males from females and at what size?

not many on here keep H. deppi from what I can tell. Don't see many pics of them. Those that do have them mostly have juveniles from what I've seen. I'd personally like to get some and grow them out to see for myself.

I would find it hard to believe they'd only get to 5-6" TL though. Even the different labridens variants/species will get 7-10". I am, however, only speculating. :)

Hi,

Male deppii grow to 8" Females 6"

Females wil develope a dark dorsal blotch, which becomes more apparant as they mature or through mood. This blotch can show when females are only around 8cm, even smaller, although will be somewhat faint. On smaller fish the orange dappling on the operculum is more apparant on female fish.

Very easy to spawn, but be careful of rogue males as they are known to kill their mates. Certainly the size aquarium they're kept in will make a huge difference. I was lucky to have a very strong bonded pair, however they were housed in a 8ft tank.

Offspring from the pair 1.5 inch.

Lee.

Thanks Lee, and you have a very nice looking pair.

I was also eying these on Jeff rapps list. I am worried because they are so small they might bloat up on me. Are they sensitive when young and do they grow slowly?

I am glad that Lee chimed in as he seems to have the most experience with these fish and is fairly accessible. In my experiences, they are as hardy as any Herichthys. Rapps seems to be the only reliable source for them on a semi-regular basis.
