Over the weekend I got a new Red Devil. I am somewhat new to fishkeeping in general and have only kept piranha and another small tank that just had some tiger barbs and a pleco. The Red Devil I got is around 10 or 11 inches and I have him in my 75 gallon with a AC110 and a Fluval 405 running. I have a few questions. First of all how much should I be feeding him. I have hikari gold cichlid pellets and I was not sure how much to feed such a large fish. He seems like he will just keep eating and eating no matter how much I throw in. My other question is he seems to be extremely aggressive much more so then I though a fish could get. If you put anything into the tank even the hose for water changes he immediately starts attacking it. He also slams into the glass so hard when i walk up to the tank I am worried he is hurting himself . My piranhas would sometimes do this but it was more because they were scared. HE does it like he is trying to attack. Is this normal for a Red Devil. I was expecting some aggression but this seems un natural for a fish haha. Even with all that he is the coolest fish I have ever had. Now I know why everyone on here love there cichlids so much haha.

Totally normal aggressive behavior. In regards to feeding...if you let him, he'll eat all day. Just feed him a little 1 or 2 times a day. Every fish is different so you'll quickly figure out how much he needs vs how much he wants.

You got yourself a very typical fish for a devil. The behavior you describe is common for the species. Thats what I love about devils, the spunky personalities! Your gonna love it!!-!

Wow dont know what happened there? Anyway, they are alot of fun to own. As adults they can tell people apart. Very interactive. Treat them to earthworms and freeze dried shrimp. Also would like to see some pics!!

That behavior is normal for a red devil. You could feed the following...

-Any Cichlid staple pellets
-Any Cichlid pellet that brings out red coloration
-Massivore
-Krill
-Earthworms
-Fish fillets
-algae wafers
-peas
-cucumbers
-zucchini

You can't go wrong as long as you vary their diet. :D

He might calm down a little when he figures out you're the one that brings the food, but yah, perfectly normal. How bout some pics?
