Glad you said that I was kinda skeptic of the whole color of the gravel thing.... it never affected any of my other fishes colors aswell...

Below is a crappy photo with a lot of the color in the fish washed out by the flash, taken with a crappy $100 point & shoot. Black background, and dark grayish gravel.

The photo doesn't even come close to representing the true color of this fish, and he's been in this tank for the past 12 months. His kok is also considerably larger now.

i like light color gravle make the tank brighter and make ur fish look brighter too.
but i like black backrounds aswell.

to me dark substrate and background make Flowerhorns look more EVIL
