I'm pretty sure it won't fade unless it's a fader.. It might get slightly darker than usual due to the environment..

alright. thanks. any other comments?

Your fish will not fade but it color will get darker like mentioned above. You can see that with the black back ground Koji's yellow on his FH does not look that good. If he kept it in a lighter back ground the yellow will come out more and the red would look a lot nicer. The only FH that looks real good in a black back ground is Faders. For some reason it brings the red and orange out of the fish.

When placed in a dark environment (or tanic water) a fish will often darken its colors quickly. However, over time it will also accumulate more pigment in its skin, making it slightly darker than it could have been before.

This also works the other way. If you place a fish in a tank with all-white walls for days-weeks, it will actually become more pale by ejecting pigment through the skin.

I totally agree with Pomatomus. Fish wont just magically fade because theyre in a dark tank.. they have to have a fader gene.

Can you explain this a little more, especially the bold part. What do you mean by faders? I thought all FH faded/peeled before they showed their full colors? Or do they fade as they get older in a different way?
