Try to get some pics of the vent in the tank.. if it's a male.. it will usually be sticking out a little almost all the time.. and it's pointier.. kind'a like a pen tip.. and I believe with females.. it's not really pointy.

Like breezie said, try to get some closer pics of the vent. The female's is kinda fatter/not pointy...
