FlowerHorns unlike other similar species like Trimac's, RD's etc are bred for there humps so male or female doesn't make any difference. If it was a pure species then yes the hump would for sure mean male but since its a hybrid FH the hump tells you nothing. Get us a clearer pic of the vent.........

:iagree: yes, this is what i heard from many ppl.
that the hump on the head usually means 'male'
BUT~ in the case of flower horns, females have been known to have big 'kok' themselves.
so i have always been puzzled as to what my flowerhorn is.

when i had the other [fh] one~ they mated.
and i had a batch of babies. but the smaller one died.
ever since then... i do not think i saw any other "spawning" of "eggs"
it just kills every damn thing i put in there...

which one exactly is the "vent" ? :uhoh:
the hole? or that lil thing sticking out? [probably this]
i will try and take a better picture of it tomarrow.
but, its not so easy, using a cell phone 1.3 megapixel camera...
while trying to hold down an angry :wall: 9-10 inch flowerhorn.

i appreciate each and every response.
thanks alot.:headbang2

get clearer pics of the venting.

take it out of the water.

although the usual males have the kok but i have seen a lot of female flowerhorn which have really big kok

im pretty sure that its a male.. base on the hump in its head.

it is a male, he has a head on him. females dont have that kind of bump on there head

all of us know that female flower horn don't have humps but what we know is wrong. female flower horns do have nuchal humps too it's rare for a female FH to have big head. female FH can have big head too.

of course that's a male.
