I have always liked them but she is obsessed. Everytime we got ot he LFS, she says "I want those" always pointing to the balas.

i have a 75 gallon tank. contains polyperids, leopard ctenopoma, and an african knifefish. A tank upgrade is in the works, but it won't be until 1-2 years when I move out of state. I don't want to move a 180, much easier to move a 75.

So would 3 balas work in a 75 for 2 years with an upgrade to a 150-180 afterwards? Or is it not big enough?

I always hear they are fast growers but mine has only grown about 2-3 inches in the past year. I only have one although I've also heard to have at least 2-3 of them, but he seems quite happy by himself. He makes a lot of noise when he eats especially harder foods, its pretty funny. Its kinda like a slurping sound.

I think if you get small ones, it should be okay. The growth rate is a major factor though.

go for it there shouldnt be a problem

mine have grown to around 8inches quite quickly around 6months from 3-3.5inches,,,there graceful but bloomin quick if startled

i had 2 bala's in my 60 gallon before i switch, they get along with all my fishes. even with flowerhorn so should be a problem with the stock you have.

I have had a variety of Balas in my life and none have been really fast growers. I have one now that is abut 6" long (inc tail) and he was maybe 4" when I got him 2 years ago. He has grown and filled out but nothing too outrageous. You should be fine with a few in a 75 as long as they're not too huge already. Unless you overfeed them they won't outgrow it quickly.

I had small and big bala's in my 225g tall. they didn't grow that fast. I only had one full size and it died. :( took a few years to go from a baby to full grown.
