Recently a cable construction company has placed fiber optic cable in my area. Wanted to hear from members who has it for internet what are the pros and cons? What equipment do I need for Wi-Fi?

If you can hook into that FO network would be great Thomas, you should end up enjoying quite faster internet speeds depending on which package you buy into (least ways that's how it works here in Thailand). I'm not sure but in my experience fiber optics seem to be more stable/dependable as another benefit. Also not sure if it's the same there, but I would think whichever ISP you sign up with (Verizon et al) should provide you with a new (WI-Fi ready) router for your house.

After they set that up all you need to do is connect your phone, pc etc. to the wi-fi with your password and you're good to go. If your house is pretty big (or has a lot of stout concrete floors/walls), then you might consider to get a WI-Fi extender to increase its reach (otherwise those locations farther from the main router will possibly have lesser signal/lower speed). Good luck and let us know later if you get it and any difference in internet speed.

Hello; A couple of years ago At&T ran new cable underground along the highway in front of my home. I was told it is fiber optic. There are new junction boxes along the buried cable. I know they did not run new wire to my home and do not think any new wire was run on the poles up in the air.
My take is the only portion that is fiber optic is the new buried portion. My home telephone line is still copper wire. Since they do not keep me in the planning loop I am not sure if they are finished or if this is just a pause. My DSL internet service is still somewhat slow and not improved that I can sense.

Fiber is light yrs faster than coaxial or ethernet cabling but allot of these companies play games and lower the speeds on basic packages so they can turn around and charge more for the higher speeds/upgraded packages.

They buried the cable in my front lawn so hopefully I can take advantage of it. My internet speed is slow lol.

Pros: Significantly faster usually.
Cons: if you have an old router you might need to replace it.

Most wifi routers that aren't ancient(Like 5+ years) though will have a fiber port.
