Oh or some type of Vieja? They are cool too. I really love red devils. I would probably also like trimacs as well

I have my red devil/midas in a four foot 75 gallon and I feel like he could use more room. He is big and very active. When I move he is getting a bigger tank. Just my two cents before you buy something.

I have always kept large growing(10 inch +) cichlids.. They show intelligence and can interact with you... I had a midas cichlid that would sometimes knock the lid of his tank open when he wanted to be fed ...a 4 foot 75 gallon or 90 gallon is enough room to keep something that you can be happy with... an oscar would make a great pet and is a more friendlier large fish option .. trimac or red devil would be a more aggressive but a show fish that will impress anyone in or coming to your home with their awareness of what is going on outside their tank. The predatory and colorful Parachromis motaguense is a current favorite of mine, and could go with that size tank ...as far as vejas you may be able to go with a synspillum...a.nice one is very awesome with their colors ....I know you said under 5 feet was your limit but if you went up to exactly 5 feet a 120 gallon is a very good "large" tank.. The one foot shorter length doesn't make it so overpowering for a livingroom and a whole lot easier to move weight wise but still only 5 gallons less than your former 125.... Looking forward to seeing your new wet pet...

I would suggest sticking to a fish that doesnt exceed 12 inches, my 13inch butti looks cramped when i moved him to my 100g for a day.... a green terror would be a nice option.

+1

What about a yellow jacket, lovely fish that doesnt get too big?

I didn't mind taking care a 125 gallon tank. My only issue with it was it being 6 feet long. I would definitely be open to a 5 foot 120 gallon tank. I had a 5 ft 120 gallon tank last year but I sold it when I decided I wanted a 125 gallon instead. I'm really kicking myself for selling the 5 foot tank now

I really like the way yellow jackets look, but I don't think I've ever seen them around

Not necessarily peaceful fish for me, but just "exotic" fish. I tried the same thing as you. I am limited only to a 55 now because I live in an apartment. Had a beautiful community of barbs and such. Just got old. Finally I pulled the trigger on 5 Red Head Tapajos that I want to pair out.

Another thing is the larger (often more aggressive) fish just seem to have more personality.
