I have a 20 gallon tank i set up for one juvie figure 8 or green spotted puffer,which would u recomend for the tank.the tank is heavily filtered by a penguin 350 power filter.

just a plain 20g? or a 20g long?
you could keep a GSP in a 20g long for a good amount of time, but it would eventually need a bit more space (I have mine in a 30g... it's still mid size, but I found a good deal so went ahead with it).
I have never kept Figure 8's, but a 20g sounds alright for them as they don't grow as large as GSPs.

Since the minimum tank size for an adult 6" GSP is 30g (I think mine would have been very happy in a 55g by himself), your best bet is a F8 in the 20g & maybe a couple of mollies for clean up.

I think you can do either or.....
F8's are small & Specific Gravity of 1.005. & fin nippers.
GSP's get bigger and require high end brackish SG 1.010 when small and like full marine when they get bigger. Also fin nippers lol

Most puffers grow out of the fin nipping.
or maybe its just when they decide to do it, they get a lot more than just a fin.?...

Never heard of that. I think they get worse as they get more comfortable with their surroundings, establish territories & get more mature..

What I was really trying to say is, if they are going to fin nip, it turns into head nip when they get older.
