Hey guys i was browsing at one of my lfs and i saw a figure 8 puffer. i thought he looked pretty cool so i went home to do some research and found a lot of different answers.
some people said that they are fresh, some said they are brackish and some said that they need to be in fresh water and then add more salt as they get older. just wanted to get some of your opinions.
thank's for any help

They can also thrive in saltwater. I'd do an entire saltwater setup. Brackish is hard to maintain and not many colorful fish for it, but saltwater opens more possibilities

Figure 8's are actually prefer low brackish water... Like 0.002 sg or something...

Its the GSP (green spotted puffer) that requires almost full marine / full marine levels to strive...

When I had some I kept them at 0.005 and they did great

alright so i would like to get 1 of these guys i read that they are fine in a 15-20 as they dont get very big and wanted to confirm this, and also they are brackish not salt?

15-20 is fine for one, I would not mingle in more than one though. Also keep in mind you might have to preform manual dentistry on this species.

I've been researching them for a a bit today but i never came across anything about dentistry. so im not quite sure what you mean by manual dentistry, if you could explain it would be appreciated.
