figures... (african aro)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't give up on them. They're definitely worth it. Especially once they're past the delicate stage and develop fat reserves. Here's my 2 footer. He was barely 2" when I got him.

wow they are strange lookin fish

How much did they run for?

Oddball........ what's he feeding on now? How does he compete for food in a tank with the rest of your fish? I passed on one when I was told that they pretty much required live blackworms consistantly, didn't have the resources to get worms everyday.... busy schedule so I passed.

BTW, Sorry about your loss.......

Now, he feeds once a day for 2 days then, a day to fast. He's a vacuum and will inhale anything (flake, FD, frozen, pellet, stick, tab) including downing a couple of live minnows (1st time last week). So far, this regimen seems to be working. The aros are active, healthy, full-bodied, and without any hint of captive-obesity.

Young ones don't require live food constantly. They require access to food. I raised them on dense culture crumbles, frozen bloodworms, and daphnia. Leftover foods made up the "constant" part of their feeding regimen. I raised them in bare tanks with sponge filters. The excess leftovers coated the surface of the sponge where the aro grazed until the next feeding. The sponges were cleaned out every other day to remove remaining leftovers before they could spoil.
This was the regimen until the aros reached about 8" and I was confident they'd begun to build sufficient fat reserves to go onto a regular feeding schedule.
