i've bought a file snake and put it in my tank with a clown knife, bichirpleco, crayfish and a crab..can the file snake harm them?

yes, fish are a main part of their diet. What species is it, you got a pic? File snakes are pretty cool, i would keep one if i had the room. How big is it currently? I hope you know how to look after them, they do have specific requirements

Acrochordus (probably granulatus) the little file snake, up to over a meter long. Nonvenomous but reputed to have a visciuos bit when pissed off. They eat fish and crustaceans so your fish are at risk. They do best with somewhat brackish water, 1 Tbs, marine salt per gallon is what the articles say, I have never kept one.

I wouldn't go out of my way to handle them, but i know some people like to keep records of their growth and weight.

Do you mean file snake as in elephant truck snake? If it is, I would do alot of research on it. Dumping a snake in a tank knowing nothing about it is very dumb.

yea z trip i believe thats a common name for the Acrochordus javanicus which is another commonly kept file snake. The one you have pictured is Acrochordus granulatus like guppy said, does yours look like this?
i did quite a bit of husbandry research at one point, and they are interesting animals. However, they should be treated as a snake, not an eel or a fish. Generally, they prefer calm conditions, not much water noise, not much water motion. People add airstones just to keep a bit of motion, and so that any feeder fish don't die before they get eaten. They need hides, which bogwood is great, as they do well in blackwater conditions that the tannings would provide. Like most snakes, stress should be kept minimum. I don't think they need salt (at least i know a lot of file snake keepers don't use it, but i'm sure a small amount wouldn't hurt). They need access to air, so they can breathe. They need a swimming area (usually mid water). id also partially cover the surface with fake/real leaves for added cover to reduce cover. They aren't a light loving species, but you can still use some light if you wish just to keep a day/night cycle if natural light isn't available.

This is a guy who keeps Arochordus arafurae, and some of the info might be useful to you: http://www.arafurae.net/

Well, i would think it needs completely different environment to what it is at currently. How big is it currently? It depends on what it can feed on. Don't be fooled if your fish are still after alive after some time, they aren't necessarily the best hunters. I wouldn't say any of them are safe
