Filling tanks to rims

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
all the way up! the only down fall i have had, is that i dont cover my aquariums for lighting purposes, and some fish jump put.

I always fill mine to the top, never a problem with oxygen, 2HOB filters and a power head move the current all over the tank, theres plenty of agitation at the top of the water.

If the tank has a lower water level for long enough, it develops that ugly mineral deposit where the waterline is, and I hate it.

Mine are about 1 1/2 inches below rim and after our earthquakes over the last couple of months I was pleased they were because water still came up and over the sides on all my tanks. We are prone to earthquakes here.

I always wear review goggles now so I can protect myself from comets and meteroids. I almost got hit by one once.

I leave about a inch or 2 at the top too, but mostly for the Bichirs to come up and grab some air.. And so when the fish splash the water doesn't spill out the back as much too..

water all the way to the rim definitely, i can not stand low levels. If you have surface agitation, appropriate stocking levels, air pumps/stones running to aid agitation and the temperature is not crazy high then there really should be no scientific advantage to keep water 2inches lower
