filling up after water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i change about 130 gallons every sat/sun.. i run siphons to drain.

before filling i prime for the whole tank.
i made a "filler" out of a few pvc angles, tubes, and misc parts.. this filler hangs on the tank while connected to a tube that is in turn connected to the garden hose..

for my sensitive fish, i fill up the tanks slowly so the heater can help... the others get it quick..

So nobody here does this?

I get warm water out of the tap, check the temp, add hot/cold accordingly to get the same temp as the tank, add dechlor and syphon into tank.

Im always sure to get the same water temps

I use 20 litre buckets on a 100 gal.

Doesnt take that much more time really.

I used to do the same thing before, but then I got lazy and I read somewhere that the human finger is surprisingly deadly accurate in comparing temperature.
Anyone correct me on this, but IME with cichlids as long as the water is not too drastically cold or hot, it worked for me. I just try to feel out the temp of the water and make it as close to the tank water as I can. I add dechlorinator to my tap as well. Although I change my brand of dechlorinator because I found that you have to make sure the product removes chlorine and chloramine as well.

I use a hose to siphon out the water, 15 metre hose to the back of the house. I then connect this to another hose and i leave it to water the garden. I feel bad about wasting so much water. I also have a few bins that i use to store old fish water so my rents can use it for their gardens.

As for filling up, i just use buckets, i put a little bit of Prime in every bucket.

i just run tap water straight from the sink and add enough Prime to treat the whole tank. Its a 125 with SA cichlids and other large fish.

probably not ideal. but its worked for me for 3 years.
