Is there any problem with using a garden hose to fill a tank? Might sound like a stupid question but I saw a thread here along time ago and someone said all his fish died when he filled with a garden hose.

I'd rather not haul 25 buckets back and forth unless I absolutely have to.

I have used a garden hose before just let it run for a while to clean out any stuff that might be stuck in there. As long as your hose hasn't been sitting for like couple of years it shouldn't be a problem.

I better hold off on that. I just noticed something wrong with my water this morning. Its coming out of the tap with a brownish yellowish tinge. Im hooked up to a well water system. I'll call the town office tomorrow and see what this is all about.

Interesting. See if it settles if you leave it in a glass for a while.

I use hoses that have been used as garden hoses for at least a year. By years end, I can no longer detect any curing chemicals and I figure the anti-mold agents have aged out too. I buy commercial-grade thick-walled no-kink hoses so I can get many years use out of them.

You can buy drinking water grade garden hoses, 8 bucks for a 25 footer at Walmart

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF FISH YOU PLAN TO HAVE IN YOUR TANK. ALSO EVERY CITY OR TOWN WATER PH LEVEL IS DIFFERENT. SOME TOWNS GET CITY WATER AND OTHERS GET STATE WATER, BIG DIFFERENCE.

I live in a flat and use a garden hose from my bathtub faucet to the tank directly... been doing that since last December and I've had no problems or anything so far. I just have to make sure the water isn't shooting out too fast but thats about it...

Certainly is easier than how I used to drag buckets across the house...

As long as there are no curing agents or silicone inserts in the hose you should be fine. I certainly wouldn't use one I had hooked up to a herbicide/algacide/insecticide sprayer at any time.

Lol, I hate the buckets system, I wish I had a good reliable hose that didn't have dog chew marks in it.
