i cant get rid of the film on the top of my water. any ideas? is there some sort of skimmer i can use?

it is protein you are overfeeding, just use an airstone let the bubbles break the surface, the fil will disipate. Feed lighter

i have 3 small oscars and 1 small gator gar in a 120. im tryin to powerfeed. i actually didnt think i was feeding that much. about 10 feeders every 3 days, some bloodworms, pellets and some various foods in between taking 2 days break every 6 days

I've gotten rid of that film with a paper towel quickly laid flat on the surface and removed the instant it is totally wet, but now that I know about what is in paper towels I can't advise that. It caused me no problems that I know of when I did it, but still.

surface agitation e.g. airstone. its not so much about feeding but rather uneaten food.

if the food is not eaten, it is overfeeding, correct?

So it is not about the sun, it is about the light outside during the day.

ok thanks guys, also, i think i added fish a hair too early, its almost done cycling. my nitrites are at .25 and nitrates at 5ppm and ammonia at 0. im no expert, but i have an african cichlid tank thats always at 0 (except ph obviously). im huge on clean tanks and crystal clear water. this tank has just been different because before i had it set up i had my filter in my cichlid tank and it just threw me off a little as far as cycling went. so thanks again
