Ok let's slow down here, you seem to not understand what you have written.

I said he was overfeeding.

You said the film was from uneaten food.

Solution: If you do not overfeed there will be no uneaten food.

See how easy it is.................:screwy:

If your a fish keeper and care about the fish... Stick around by the tank till the fish are done eating? If they dont eat it all use ur net and get it out or its Toxic to the environment! I always skim the tank and i have a 220 to skim. Its not that hard and yes airstone(s) Wavemakers Proteins skimmers all do the same as u just skimming the surface for that need. I would recommend atleast 2 air stones in either corner of the tank.

i cant get rid of the film on the top of my water. any ideas? is there some sort of skimmer i can use?

You are from PA like me. You probably have the film right out of your tap. It has nothing to do with food or feeding quantity. I get the film when I first fill up a new tank and it never goes away. I have a skimmer in each tank.

I recommend the AquaClear or Fluval surface skimmer; both are the same skimmer but with different adapters. The AC skimmer comes with an adapter that fits perfectly on a Rena XP canister and the Fluval has an elbow adapter that fit perfectly on my HOT Magnum canister.

I get this foam as well but not from over feeding. I think it also has to do with certain foods u feed. I feed every 3rd day and I feed market prawns and lake smelts. The foam only appears while feeding lake smelts. When I see my Alligator Gar take chomps at it I see a residue coming out of the smelt alone. Now I feed more prawns and pellets and only feed Lake smelts once a week. After feeding lake smelts I do a huge waterchange.

I've gotten rid of that film with a paper towel quickly laid flat on the surface and removed the instant it is totally wet, but now that I know about what is in paper towels I can't advise that. It caused me no problems that I know of when I did it, but still.

I have done the EXCACT same thing. Works like a charm.

You can however, buy surface extracters through places like drsfosterandsmith.com and other such online fish places...they work with canisters and HOB filters...
