Film on water

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
MOST FISH GUYS CALL THEM AIR PUMPS NOT OXYGEN PUMPS. BE CAREFUL WHO YOU CALL AN IDIOT SOME OF US IDIOTS REALLY KNOW WHATS GOING ON AND COULD BE HELPFUL. GOOD CURRENT IN YOUR TANK SHOULD HELP THE FILM GO AWAY.

You just sounded silly, that's all. A pump pushes outside air through a tube into an airstone, to aggitate the surface of the water for better O2 exchange in your tank.

I beg your pardon? There is way more to air than O2. I didn't really come here to argue with you but I thought I'd help you learn something.

ya and i didnt come here to get taught a lesson
but im sorry for my aditude
i wasnt in the best of moods when i comented this thread

Me either but we're all here to learn...

Have a Happy Holiday.

air and oxygen have the same meanings

In it's elemental state, yes air and oxygen are regarded as the same, however, in this hobby/industry, you need to be aware of the terms you use when referring to some things. An average non-aquatic individual might feel two things are the same, another in this field however, most likely will not, and here is why; Air is oxygen - True, however, they do not have the same meanings when you are dealing with aquatics. With use of Air stones, air pumps, air tubings, bubble wands, ect., etc., the theme of "Air" and not Oxygen, is reoccurring. However, when you move into more complex systems, you hear hobbyists refer to some aeration/injection units as delivering "Oxygen", "c02", "Ozone", etc. This is because on one hand, you have ordinary atmospheric air which is being sucked from the surrounding area, and pushed into the tank to create bubbles - essentially. On the other hand, you have pressurized/Compressed, or mixed elements, with pure oxygen, which is delivered generally through an injector or other diffusion source depending on your particular set up and needs. SO - while yes, some may consider them the same thing, they will not always have the same meaning, nor will they always have the same components, so even though I am sure we did understand what you were trying to explain, it might behoove you to not be quite as reactionary next time someone asks for clarification.

Split your intake to your skimmer. T it on the bottom; leave on end open and pipe the other end to a surface skimmer. The protein film will get sucked in and placed gently into the collection cup.
